It’s been a funny one this. In the final few frantic days of the summer window there appeared to be a tug of war between Everton and Aston Villa for the services of Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley.
A deal to Everton fell through and he just managed to squeeze through the door at Villa, massaging every possible deadline rule to get there. But we got the sense that he would have preferred to move to an Everton club who were expected to be fighting at the other end of the table to Villa.
And latest reports suggest that he will shun a permanent move to Villa Park to move to Goodison instead.
TOM CLEVERLEY is set to snub a permanent move to Aston Villa in favour of joining Everton instead.
Villa are willing to meet United’s £7m asking price, but Starsport understands the 25-year-old will snub the Midlands outfit because he wants to go to the Toffees.
Cleverley has had an unspectacular season so far for Villa playing just 5 games. He started his career brightly but then seemed to go backwards and arguably lost the attacking edge to his game as Manchester United fans pilloried him for passing the ball sideways too often.
With so much quality in the midfield at Everton already will Roberto Martinez still see Cleverley as someone who can markedly improve the midfield by the summer? We aren’t so sure.
Let’s see the lad in action. Everton fans: a good buy or just a squad player?
