Arsenal could be closing in on their first signing of the window as latest reports have quoted Krystian Bielik as saying that his mind is made up on his immediate future.
The Metro reports that the player wants to move to Arsenal:
‘I’ve made a decision [to join Arsenal] and I’m not going to change it,’ he said.
‘I am looking forward to an agreement between the heads of the clubs. I realise that the negotiations may take some time.
‘I am, however, confident it will happen soon.’
The source says that Arsenal have so far bid £1.5m for the player but that his club are holding out for around £2m. It could turn out to be peanuts if the player makes the grade at the club.
Although just 17 he has already turned out for the Legia Warsaw first XI on 5 occasions as well as playing for the Poland U16s.
Arsenal have a huge youth recruitment policy but many fans will be crying out for some substantial and more experienced arrivals in this window. Even if the lad is mature for his age he’s unlikely to get a game for Arsenal for a couple of years at least – save for the odd cup game.
A defensive midfielder is definitely what Arsenal needs right now to add strength and discipline to the engine room. But probably one who is older than 17. That said, Bielik looks like a talented boy and, with a bit of luck, we might be seeing him in the first team on a regular basis in a few seasons time.
Let’s take look at the lad in action. Arsenal fans: still impressed with the emphasis on youth recruitment?
