Under Sir Alex Ferguson Manchester United fans didn’t expect much from the winter window. That was generally because the team was always so healthy that emergency additions weren’t required in the middle of the season.
The most notable exception was when Fergie bought Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic in January 2006. Both went on to have superb careers at Manchester United and there are similar problems with the defence right now.
Various names have been mentioned in relation to Manchester United targets and news today suggests that goalkeeper Victor Valdes will join the club this month. But Manchester United may not be finished there and surely there is no one better to bring in in January then Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels.
The Express reports that Manchester United have made an opening bid for the 26 year old, who has seen his team suffer badly in the Bundesliga this season.
Man Utd lodge opening BID to beat Arsenal to Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels
MANCHESTER UNITED have made an offer for German defender Mats Hummels.
Hummels is the perfect addition to Manchester United because he would fulfil so many functions. He would add experience and composure to a defence which has, at times this season, looked all over the shop. He would bring solidity with his excellent positioning. And, last but certainly not least, he would vastly improved the distribution out of defence. Hummels has many qualities but perhaps his best is the fact that he is such a great ball playing defender.
The passing out of the back line simply hasn’t been good enough since Rio Ferdinand departed the club in the summer and Hummels would solve this problem and several others.
Let’s see some his highlights. Manchester United fans: would this be your number one choice for winter transfers?
