Manchester City fans will be careful to separate the wheat from the chaff with all the January transfer rumours swirling around. But when The BBC reports on a transfer it’s safe to assume that it’s going to happen

Possibly aware of interest from other clubs Manchester City have moved quickly to snare Wilfired Bony of Swansea and The BBC reported on Monday night:

Manchester City are in advanced talks with Swansea City over signing Wilfried Bony, BBC Wales Sport has learned.

We think that he will be marvellous addition to the squad. As a player he is perhaps stylistically somewhere between Dzeko and Jovetic. He has similar strength to the Bosnian but, unusually for such a powerhouse, he also has the quick feet of a player like Manchester City’s Montenegro international.

At 26 he’s ready for a move having emphatically proven himself in The Premier League with 34 goals in 70 games since joining Swansea. When he arrived Michu was the main man at the club. But Bony has developed into a wonderful player and it will be really interesting to see how he fits into the team when everyone is fit – if he does complete his move.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will be keen to promote the idea of meritocracy in the squad. But we would be inclined to put Bony in the starting eleven straight away – even when Sergio Aguero is fit.

Bony is a pretty complete modern striker. He’s got the aforementioned power and trickery. He’s also possesses a be-slippered first touch and is so relaxed in front of the goal that it’s almost impossible to imagine he’s playing football on the world stage – this is not a player who we believe will suffer under the weight of expectation at Manchester City. They are signign an ice-cool marksman who is going to be a star.

With City neck and neck in the title race with Chelsea, this purchase could well tip the balance in favour of the northerners.
