Manchester United fans had to suffer several years of austerity in the market before the latest summer splurge and the overriding feeling with many of the signings was of slight disappointment.
Similarly, the Arsenal fans have been extremely patient while The Emirates was built and now they are hoping that the signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will signal a new era of genuinely exciting arrivals.
We just hope that Arsene Wenger allows himself to be liberal with the cash in order to add the missing pieces to the jigsaw.
His neglect of the engine room over the last few years has been scarcely believable as Wenger has seemingly adopted the view that attacking midfielders are all that a successful team really needs.
But Arsenal need a midfield general like never before and we think that Moussa Sissoko would be a marvellous purchase. He may be more adventurous than your classic anchor man. But the skill levels of the Frenchman should appeal to Wenger and we think he could do a Vieira-esque job in the midfield – guarding the defence with his power and mobility but also driving the team forward and providing the odd goal.
Arsenal have oft been linked with a player who joined Newcastle for just £1.8m and latest reports suggest that Newcastle have put a £25m price tag on his head. The Express reports:
Reports in France suggest the 25-year-old has been in talks with PSG, but Newcastle say this is untrue and Sissoko will stay at St James’ Park unless they are offered over £25million for his services.
That really isn’t a lot of money for a 25 year old French international midfielder. Some Arsenal fans that we have spoken to would prefer to sign a more conventional anchor man like Morgan Schneidelrin. But, if we held the purse strings, we would have a punt on Sissoko. He’s a magical player who seems omnipresent and makes things happen.
Let’s see some Sissoko magic. Arsenal fans: potatoes boiled?
