Real Madrid’s incredible winning run came to an end at Valencia on Sunday. Everyone knew that it had to end sometime. But that didn’t make it any easier to swallow for the fans.
Despite the defeat we think that Real Madrid are in their best shape for years. They are getting the ball from back to front with great speed, precision and inventiveness. It doesn’t matter how good you are, you will always need luck to win titles. But, in terms of pure quality, Real Madrid still look to be favourites for everything right now.
The one area which needs improvement is in goal. Iker Casillas has recovered somewhat from his recent slump and Keylor Navas is decent. But Real Madrid need a world class stopper in there.
And, in news that may pique the club’s interest, the British media is reporting that Hugo Lloris may be available. The Sun says:
TOTTENHAM will allow Hugo Lloris to leave for a Champions League club in the summer — even if they seal a top-four spot.
There aren’t too many keepers who would be guaranteed success at Real Madrid. But Lloris is one of them. He’s not only technically brilliant – he’s got great hands, classy feet, agility and presence in the area – but he also has the confidence and personality not to let such a big move phase him.
At 28 LLoris is at the height of his powers and if Spurs are prepared to sell we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Real Madrid make a move. They could certainly do a lot worse than the man who has been capped 65 times by France and regularly linked with a move to the Bernabeu.
