Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told us last month that he would be investing in the market in January and he may be close to doing an interesting bit of business after French defender Loic Perrin claimed that Arsenal had been in touch with him of late. He is quoted as saying:

“I was contacted personally. Arsenal are interested,” he told Le Progres. “But for now, there is still no contact with Saint-Etienne.”

Hold on…isn’t that what they call tapping up? In reality it must happen all the time. It’s only natural that Arsenal would want to find out if the player is interested in joining the club before making an official bid to the selling party.

Perrin is a one club man who has played his entire senior career at St. Etienne. He also turned out for the France U18 and U21 sides but has never made a senior appearance. At 29 he was called up to the squad for the friendly matches against Albani and Sweden and a move to Arsenal will only improve his chances of a further international breakthrough.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Arsenal fans: Is this the ready made that you need or is Perrin yet another slightly underwhelming signing who won’t improve the overall quality of the squad?
