Manchester United eye these heavyweight signings in January as they aim for title push – report

Hummels can take Manchester United's defence to a different level

None Shall Pass

It seems fanciful to suggest that Manchester United can win the title from here. But 9 point gaps have been overturned before and if anyone can do it you feel that United can.

But it’s not even a point worthy of casual discussion unless they buy a defender or two in January. If they stick with what they have at the back then you would imagine that any sort of title challenge would have to wait until next season.

But, with the power that Manchester United has going forward, we feel that a couple of world class signings at the back could completely transform their prospects and put a little fear into he top two, who may start to look over their shoulder.

Latest reports suggest that Manchester United may go for two beauties to stop the rot in defence. The Express reports:

TWO Germans set to bolster Man Utd’s defence this January

MANCHESTER UNITED are plotting an audacious double defensive swoop for Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Schalke’s Benedikt Howedes.

We know all about Hummels. He’s a superb defender with great athleticism. But his real forte is his passing out of defence, which has been poor from United this season.

And some believe that you are only as good as you’re centre back partner in defence. Hummels knows all about his international team, mate Howedes and we feel that this is an even more viable signing for the club. Not as quick or talented as Hummels but he would be an excellent partner for the 26 year old. These two could solve Manchester Untied’s defensive problems in one fell swoop.

Let’s see Howedes in action. Manchester United fans: the perfect pair?
