Rolls Royce II

The Tottenham result will do little to persuade the majority that the title isn’t Chelsea’s for the taking. Jose is a terrible loser but every team gets beaten sometimes and Chelsea met a Spurs side on fire for the day.

But they still have remarkable strength in depth in most areas of the park. They have also dealt with the departure of Frank Lampard almost seamlessly.

The next big challenge is to replace John Terry. He’s playing some of his best football for Chelsea right now but we should see further signs of deterioration over the next 12 months.

And latest reports suggest that Raphael Varane could be targeted as a replacement. Anyone who hasn’t seen this guy play is missing something special. He’s really pacey and strong but also has the most wonderful touch for a defender. In many ways he’s Rio Ferdinand mark II.

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea are on alert with Raphael Varane considering his future at Real Madrid.

We don’t believe that Real Madrid will let a player of this calibre leave the club. But with Sergio Ramos and Pepe likely to keep their places for some time yet there is a sense that the Frenchman might be getting itchy feet.

At 21, and with 17 caps already under his belt for France, we can think of few better long term investments in world football than this guy. He’s as silky as they come in terms of defensive class and would offer Chelsea a decade of top service at least. In fact, if The Blues did manage to snare the lad, the competition may feel like hanging up their boots.

Let’s take a look at Varane in action. Chelsea fans: can he replace Mr.Terry?
