Manchester United: Sensible long-term signing mooted – player prefers United move – report

While the transfer market can be very unpredictable in January, it’s still quite clear to see which targets are realistic.

Players competing for The Champions League would be unlikely to come to Manchester United in January unless their team had no chance of getting close to winning the trophy – so there is still some hope for Mats Hummels to United this winter.

But latest reports suggest that Manchester United are gearing up for a move for Raphael Varane who is said to be unsure of his future at Real Madrid after having to play second fiddle to Pepe and Sergio Ramos for the last couple of years.

Man Utd ready to STEP UP bid to beat Chelsea to Raphael Varane after Pepe blow

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea are on alert with Raphael Varane considering his future at Real Madrid.

Reports in France suggest that Manchester United are the player’s preferred destination

We have to say that we don’t think Real Madrid will let a player of Varane’s obvious class leave the club – especially mid-season. We would pick him ahead of Pepe already and it’s only a matter of time before he is a regular at Real Madrid.

There is a small chance of a move of course. But Manchester United would have to count themselves extremely fortuitous to pull off such a deal this January.

Let’s see the French Rio Ferdinand in action. Manchester United fans: A better option than Hummels?
