Manchester United’s £150m summer splurge has done little to dampen the flames of speculation about another big spend in January. Indeed, after years of austerity at the club, the recent loosening of the purse strings has only intensified expectation for further investment.
But, with the window now open, have Manchester United actually lined anyone up? Have they done the requisite negations with any of the heavily linked players already? Certainly it seems a bit scattergun to wait until January to feel players and clubs out about moves – especially with big money at stake.
So, if a deal does get confirmed straight away, who are the most likely arrivals?
Big Kev
It’s getting a bit sneijderesque with Kevin Strootman now, in terms of the intensity and regularity of speculation linking him to Manchester United. We feel that he is very much wanted by Louis van Gaal. In our experience, Italian clubs are always willing to sell a player if the price is right. And, with Roma out of The Champions League, they may feel that a move is now inevitable.
Manchester United have improved in midfield but Strootman is a long term investment. This could be the most likely early deal.
Mats Hummels
If Manchester United signed Hummels and Strootman in January they might even have a chance of the title. These two are pure class and would add precision and composure to a talented but coltish defensive department. Hummels would have to be the best option for centre back.
Seamus Coleman
We have always been fans fop Rafael. But we had hoped that he would have got over the niggling injuries and stopped diving in by now. Alas, injury and impetuousness still blight his game. Antonio Valencia has been a decent stand in with his inordinate energy levels. But Coleman is possibly better than both. He’d be an excellent signing for Manchester United.
Let’s see Coleman flying down that right flank. Manchester United fans: Who do you want the club to sign most?

I like Coleman but he isn’t worth what Everton are asking and besides, Rafael will just fine for me. I’m more concerned with the injury prone Smallling, Jones and Evans. In short, United need a WORLD CLASS Center Half! I’ll also take another top mid-fielder if available.
