Newcastle’s 4-0 humbling in The Capital One Cup seemed less like a return to the dark days and more of an acceptance that Premier League position is priority number 1,2 and 3 for the club this season.
After a dire year you felt that anything was possible with some feeling that Newcastle were even susceptible to relegation. But things have taken an amazing turn for the better and Alan Pardew – a dead man walking two months ago – has risen from the ashes to put a really very decent team together.
Pardew’s job now is, crucially, to keep all his best players and bring on one or two more.
Newcastle still look a little light up top but with Andy Carroll doing so well on his return from injury at West Ham, rumours of a move back home have died down for now.
One interesting option, who has been regularly linked to the club is Burnley striker Danny Ings.
Still only 22 and with 7 caps (4 goals) for the England U21s, Ings also has a decent strike rate of 36 in 107 games for his current club.
But he’s much more than a goal scorer. Ings is a creator of real guile and quality. We think he could slot in nicely at number 10 for Newcastle and offer more wizardry up top.
SkyBet have made Newcastle odds on favourites to sign Ings at 10/11, if he does move on in the coming window.
Let’s take a look at him in action. Newcastle fans: is this the sort of player that you need right now?
