Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsenal have enjoyed a real fillip ahead of the festive fixtures with news that their midfielder, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, should be fit in time for Sunday’s crunch game against Liverpool. The Telegraph reports:

Arsenal were boosted on the players’ return to training after their mini Christmas break on Wednesday by the news that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would almost certainly play against Liverpool on Sunday.

Both sides have struggled at times this season and, in the circumstances, they will both see a top four finish as an excellent result at the end of the campaign.

While Southampton and West Ham have started well you would expect Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool to be battling for 3rd and 4th places come May and this game is a real six pointer in that respect.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has had to be very patient since he burst on to the scene as a teenager, spending long spells on the bench, to the consternation of many an Arsenal fan.

But he’s made 24 appearances already this campaign in what is becoming comfortably his best season for the club. In fact, we believe that the Englishmen is now one of the most important players in the Arsenal team. Last 21, he’s blistering out wide but also has the intelligence to play in the centre of the park.

It will be interesting to see who drops out when Theo Walcott is fit. But, with Sanchez, The Ox and Walcott fighting for the wide berths something will have to give. On this form, Oxlade Chamberlain deserves to retain his place.
