Everton manager Roberto Martinez may well enter the market for new talent during the window. But he’s been getting his eye in with player contracts by completing a new deal for Everton striker Steven Naismith.
The 28 year old, who joined Everton in 2012, has forced his way into the hearts and minds of the fans by banging in 6 goals this season. While he may not have the kudos of an expensive foreign import, Naismith has proven himself to be the ultimate pro.
He has been Gary Neville like in using his abilities to the absolute maximum to become a success in The Premier League.
And the player himself is clearly delighted to have signed on the dotted line as he told Everton TV:
“I am so happy here. From the moment I signed my first contract here it wasn’t long before I saw what a great club it was,” the 28-year-old told evertontv.
“Over the months and years it has progressed into a fantastic move for myself on and off the park. I am delighted to have agreed an extension which will keep me here for a few more years yet.
Considering that Everton have players like Samuel Eto’o and Romelu Lukaku up top, Naismith can be proud of his 15 appearances hit season. He’s certainly not in the squad to make up the numbers and many Everton fans have him in their strongest eleven.
Even when he’s off form he always puts in a shift and he’s the sort of player that every squad needs – diligent, hard-working and with a great team ethic. He’s certainly done better in The Premier League than we predicted.
Let’s see him in action. Everton fans: a first XI player?
