Chelsea fans will surely be unanimous in celebratiing the news that Eden Hazard is close to signing a new deal with the club. The new contract, thought to be in the region of £200,000 a week will be a new Chelsea record in terms of weekly wages. The Telegraph reports:

Eden Hazard is poised to give Chelsea the best possible Christmas present by agreeing the final details of his new contract. A new £200,000-a-week five-year contract has been on the table for three months and talks have been stepped up this week over signing off the small print.

Hazard and Chelsea are now keen to finalise the 23-year-old’s contract as quickly as possible, so that a public announcement can be made.

It will come as a massive relief to those who had been concerned about the future of the player. A public spat with Jose Mourinho last season, which seemingly revolved around Hazard’s resistance to tracking back, seemed as if it could turn the Frenchman’s head.

PSG have also been persistently linked with a move for the player. But he looks set to commit his long-term future to Chelsea with a deal which won’t expire until Hazard is 28.

Chelsea fans have seen this lad improve week on week in front of their eyes since he joined the club 3 years ago. On arrival he was a precocious talent who was capable of jaw-dropping skill but – after a dazzling first few games – had a tendency to flit in and out of games and to go missing for long spells.

But his potential has been realised over the last 18 months as he has gone form strength to strength. He’s now a composed, ruthless and constant threat who scores and creates goals aplenty.

While many will be envious that he’s a Chelsea player, the fact that he’s staying in The Premier League should thrill all lovers of this league.

Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: best winger that the club has had?
