Real Madrid have some of the finest players in modern European football. Whats more they are no longer a team of individuals, as so many Madrid incarnations have been over the last 20 years.
But Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has reserved special praise for a player who has been consistently good for the club, but great so far this season.
English media outlet The Daily Mail quotes the boss as saying:
‘Brazil didn’t have a good World Cup, but I don’t think it was because of Marcelo. The team in general didn’t play well.
‘Since the World Cup, Marcelo has been the best full-back in the world without a doubt. We are happy if he doesn’t join up with his national team and stays here.’
Brazil had a dreadful World Cup but, if anything, it seems to have spurred many of its players on. Marcelo is one who has been absolutely sensational this season – more solid than ever in defence but also one of Real Madrid’s very best attacking players.
At 26 he’s already played 290 for Madrid and could be there for another three years at least. He’s so fast, excellent with the ball at his feet and the sort of buccaneering defender that Real Madrid fans love to watch.
It’s something of a surprise that he only has 37 caps for Brazil. But, even in times of major transition for the national side, you feel confident that Marcelo will be retained as part of the next great Brazil vintage.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Real Madrid fans: the perfect full back?
