Killer: Manchester United suffer yet another injury blow to first team regular – report

Another blow

Some would argue that another injury to Chris Smalling would be more of a blessing than a blow.

Because there are many among the Manchester United faithful who think that The Jager Bomber is something of a liability for the club.

We beg to differ. He looked terrible when deployed at right back by David Moyes last season – he simply doesn’t have the qualities required to play on the flank.

But he’s not without his virtues as a centre back. He’s easily Manchester United’s quickest centre back, along with Rojo, and pace is an increasingly valued quality for a defender in this league.

Smalling’s height is also gratefully received in Manchester United’s shortish defensive line. Given a run of games, he would be a good player.

But he just can’t seem to get those games and latest reports suggest that he could be out until the end of the year with the most recent muscle pull. The Star reports:

Man Utd defensive woes DEEPEN with Chris Smalling ruled out until Christmas
CHRIS SMALLING has been sidelined for two weeks to add to Louis van Gaal’s defensive woes.

With the festive footy program as busy as ever it’s blow for Manchester United. Thankfully they have Jonny Evans fit again. But after his poor pre and early season form he too will have to step up if he wants to remain in LvG’s long term plans. The same can be said of Phil Jones who is also due back in the next week or so.

Manchester United fans: Blessing or Blow to lose Smalling?

We all know that Evans is probably one of the worst defenders Man U have ever had. I do no tunderstand when we still keep on playing him in the defence as we have promising youngster coming up from reserve anf I think we all can forget about Evans for ever.
