Report: Exit now almost certain. Arsenal to move fast?

Given the recent ups and downs you would imagine that Arsenal will be one of the heavier spenders in the January transfer window.

There are constant rumours about playmakers and forwards coming into the club – hardly a day goes by when one isn’t linked – but Arsenal surely need to look at less spectacular but crucial defensive signings in January.

With Arsene Wenger at the helm that won’t necessarily happen but another defined currently wouldn’t go amiss. So how about Winston Reid?

Latest reports suggest that Reid, who has been linked with Arsenal, is almost certain to leave West Ham after the club apparently baulked at his wage demands. The Mirror says:

Liverpool and Arsenal transfer target Winston Reid’s West Ham wage demands make exit almost certain

The 26 year old apparently wants £60k a week to sign his next contract. While the likes of Arsenal may pay this, it leaves West Ham out of the running.

Reid is something of a late bloomer. He joined West Ham from Midtjylland in Norway in 2010 and has slowly become central to the plans of the team. He’s turned out 18 times for New Zealand, his country of birth, and is in the best form of his career right now.

While he’s strong and mobile, his lack of Champions League experience may go against him if he is hoping for a move to one of the big boys. That said, he’s quick and athletic – a very solid player.

Let’s see the lad in action. Arsenal fans: would this be a decent option to bolster the defence or would you rather sign a player with more top level European experience?
