Very rarely, a season comes along where everything seems to fall into place for a top level football club.
This may just be the case for Chelsea this season. With no major injuries to deal with the squad has been strong. The new signings have mainly hit the ground running and there appears to be great unity and a highly positive vibe at Stamford Bridge right now.
And who would have thought that, at 36, Didier Drogba could have such an impact on the season? If ever there were a portent of the stars aligning for Chelsea then Drogba’s return and sizzling form is surely it.
We knew that the Ivorian – who has been prolific throughout his club career with 259 goals in 592 appearances – wasn’t yet scrap heap material. But his form and fitness in the first few games suggested that Drogba would be used in emergency and to help the less experienced members of the squad cope with life under the spotlight.
But he’s exploded of late and, while he’s still behind Costa in the pecking order, he appears to be getting the nod ahead of Loic Remy, who is himself in excellent form. 592 259
Jose Mourinho has intimated that the top brass at Chelsea want to hold onto the lad and the boss said:
‘We love him, we want him’
Mr. Abramovich is happy to keep him in the club in every area where we feel and he feels that he is useful and happy.
So life is sweet at Chelsea. Can they win the league? Yes. Can they win The Champions League? Well they don’t have the power or majesty of Real Madrid but remember 2012? Of course you do. Don’t put anything past Jose Mourinho’s buoyant team right now.
Let’s see the big man doing the business this season.
