Shocker: Lengthy lay off for big money Manchester United signing according to report

Zaha never settled at Manchester United

What a player

We really hope, for Manchester United’s sake, that this one turns out to be wide of the mark.

After a long lay off at the start of the season Luke Shaw found fitness and form – for a short time anyway.

He’s a player that we love to watch. A dynamic, quick and bucaneering left-back who has made it much easier to deal with the departure of the legendary Patrice Evra. We believe that Shaw can be a superstar.

But he hurt his ankle in the game against Arsenal and The Express reports:

While Evans is fit again after playing 64 minutes for United’s reserves on Tuesday, Luke Shaw – who missed the first month of the season with a torn hamstring – is set for another lengthy lay-off after going over on his ankle at Arsenal on Saturday.

Manchester United should be well covered on the left after so much summer investment in that area. United signed Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Shaw for the left side but all are now crocked.

Thankfully Manchester United can call on the services of Ashley Young this weekend. Regular readers will know that we aren’t his biggest fans. But, while Young is an awful left winger, he seems to be well-suited to a wing back or full back role. He doesn’t have the guile or talent to beat men and deliver deadly crosses. But what he does have is a marvellous engine. He can get up and down that flank all day long and he will offer decent cover for the injured trio. Young was really impressive against Arsenal and we think that Louis likes him as a utility man.

But we sincerely hope that these reports about Shaw are wide of the mark because Manchester United need him. And besides, it just looked like a turned ankle at the time.

Let’s see some Shaw Magic. United fans: big loss?
