News that Ander Herrera was picked to start the reserves game on Tuesday night will be greeted with differing opinions. MUFC says:
Ander Herrera has been included in Manchester United’s squad for the Lancashire Senior Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.
Of course, the reserve team has been used many times down the years to give game time to even the biggest stars on their return from injury. And, after a month on the sidelines – he sustained a fractured rib in October – Herrera will be a bit rusty.
But some will be concerned at how he has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United to the extent that he’s not getting minutes even when the team has so many injuries. LvG said that the player had recovered over three weeks ago and he has played since his initial injury – against WBA.
It’s been a bit of a strange career so far for Ander Herrera at Manchester United. His debut, on the preseason tour of America, couldn’t have gone much better.
Herrera provided 4 or 5 assists in the match against The Galaxy and looked like an even better version of Cesc Fabregas. But while Manchester United’s long term target hit the ground running with Chelsea Herrera has disappeared out of sight.
The injury was an obvious obstacle but Herrera has been fit for a while and overlooked for a place in the team. For £30m you expect a player to be starting.
We have had concerns about him since the start. He certainly has technique. But he is very small for the Prem and gives the ball away too often. One good contribution is too regularly followed by a poor one.
Of course, it’s the first time that Herrera has played outside Spain and he must be allowed time to adapt. But he does need to start showing signs of improvement or we may see Manchester United try to cut their losses before too long, Shinji Kagawa style.
Let’s see some Herrera clips from his debut. Manchester United fans: will he become a United legend?

Herrera has not been fit. He has been recovering from the rib injury he sustained versus West Ham. So Jonny Evans has been demoted to? Both have been given a chance for some game time after long injuries. Stop speculating man.

Herrera needs to build some muscle with weight training, same for blind, mata and januzaj. They are too easy pushed away. Look at Costa, he is not tall but he has bigger schoulders and chest then the players above.
