Some think that the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time. Remind you of anyone? Arsenal have long term problems – a dodgy core which just isn’t physically dominant enough – but boss Arsene Wenger seems to attempt the same old tactics hoping for a better outcome each time.
At least The Gunners are being linked with a real character for the defence in latest tabloid reports, which say that:
Arsenal ‘very close’ to signing Basel’s Fabian Schar in £9.5m transfer deal
At 22, Schar looks like he’s going to be the business. You wouldn’t necessarily choose Switzerland as your first call for world class players. But Schar has all the qualities to add some grit and necessary ugliness to the Arsenal back line over the next few years.
He’s already played 9 times for Switzerland scoring a remarkable 4 goals. He’s got the sort of scoring record at club level with Basel – 9 in 56 league games – that many top level midfielders would be happy with.
Star is commanding in the air (6ft 1in), good on the ground and has genuine leadership quality as well as threat from the set piece. We think a lot of him a lot and would like to see him at the club.
Let’s take a look at him in action. Arsenal fans: good enough?
