There is no escaping the fact that Newcastle’s worrying downward trajectory started at roughly the same time as the club sold Yohan Cabaye to PSG.
It hasn’t been a happy time for club or player. Cabaye has been left on the bench more often than not and Newcastle have struggled to replace the Frenchman’s playmaking abilities.
Former Magpie Olivier Bernard has stoked the fires of a move back to Newcastle by saying that his countryman will ‘absolutely’ return to The Premier League in January.
Cabaye would probably command the interest of several Premier League clubs should he indeed become available.
But after struggling to make an impression at his new club a move back to Newcastle, where he played out of his skin, may feel like the best option to get his career back on track quickly.
And Newcastle could certainly use his ability to hit a key pass and keep possession in a team that will want to continue on its new found upward trajectory.
It’s hard to imagine Newcastle not going in for him in January if Cabaye wants a move.
Let’s see him in full flight for his old club. Newcastle fans: no-brainer?
