It’s transfer speculation that has been circling since even before Manchester United brought Louis van Gaal to the club. Kevin Strootman looks like the sort of midfield general who could restore United to pre-eminence and the latest developments may have brought his signing one step closer.
Because news that Daley Blind has damaged medial ligaments in his knee sounds serious. Hopefully he’ll be out for a few weeks but, depending on the extent of damage, it could take months for Manchester United’s impressive new midfielder to full recover. The scan on Monday should tell us much more.
Michael Carrick is back from injury but, at 33, he can’t be the main man in Manchester United’s engine room for much longer. Marina Fellaini has improved but many to most still doubt his credentials as a successful long term solution for the team.
With Strootman returning to competitive action for his club Roma last week things could move pretty quickly on this one. If the lad is looking sharp when the window opens and Blind is still struggling then we may expect a bid.
Certainly it won’t take long for the tabloids to put 2 and 2 together on this tale.
Let’s see Strootman dominating games. Manchester United fans: keen?
