A Real Madrid side with Marco Reus – who misses out?

There has been a lot of talk this week about the possibility of Borussia Dortmund playmaker, Marco Reus, joining Real Madrid some time over the next two windows.

This is one of the best players in Europe and he has naturally been linked with many of the top clubs in European football. But if Real Madrid really want a player they are very good at persuading them to join. And Real Madrid really sells itself as a place to play football.

The question is, with such a magnificent team in place already, who would drop out to accommodate Reus?

The 4-2-3-1 formations seems set in stone with Carlo Ancelotti. He’s unlikely to change it for any one player. So the back 7 are safe, with Modric and Kroos sitting in front of the defence.

In times past we might have taken Benzema out of the side and put Ronaldo up front with Reus on the left. But Benzema is in the form of his life and is surely undroppable right now. Meanwhile, James Rodriguez is getting better by the week. He’s already frighteningly good and no one knows where his development curve will level out.

And of course no one in their right mind would drop Ronaldo.

So it seems like a straight fight between Bale and Reus for that last attacking spot in the team. Isco too merits a mention after some fine performances of late.

This is of course a squad game and Real Madrid need a big group to stay fresh for all the trophies that they are chasing. But, with the world’s most expensive player yet to find his best form, Reus may just squeeze into the strongest eleven on the right or in the hole behind Benzema with Rodriguez right.

Here’s an XI with Reus starting. Real Madrid fans: Bale or Reus?
