It seems that, almost since he came through the door at Old Trafford, there has been speculation about the future of Robin van Persie.
Ok, first year was blissful for the lad. But since Fergie left there appears to have been some turbulence and even the arrival of his countryman Louis van Gaal hasn’t completely dampened the rumours that he may leave Manchester United.
In truth, at 31, he may never regain the sharpness that he had in his first year at Manchester United. He does look laboured at times and the catalogue of injuries that he has had may eventually take their toll.
Tabloid reports suggest that there has been recent interest in the player from abroad:
According to reports in Turkey, the Dutch striker was the subject of a recent enquiry from the Superlig side.
It is being suggested that the Turkish club have contacted Van Persie’s representatives but have been told a January deal is off the table.
However, it remains to be seen if the 31-year-old’s long-term future lies at Old Trafford with injuries and a lack of form limiting his impact under new boss Louis van Gaal.
Van Persie can of course still make crucial interventions. If he has lost a little mobility then his accuracy in front of goal hasn’t been diminished, as we saw against Chelsea.
This is a natural born footballer who wants to play for as long as possible. He looks after himself and we think that he has a couple more years left at the top. But if Manchester United can get Radamel Falcao fit and firing, it will be interesting to see if Van Gaal plays two up top or benches one of them.
Our bet is that RvP will stay for this season and next. Manchester United fans: can RvP still play a big part at United?
