There was a real sense of finality about Louis van Gaal’s dealings over the summer. Manchester United needed a strong character to come in and imprint his vision on the club and he has done so emphatically.
Not all of the Dutchman’s decisions have gone down well – the sale of Danny Welbeck was one of the more controversial in recent times – and LvG also let go of some crowd pleasers.
While Nani would infuriate as much as he could amaze, Javier Hernandez was loved by all at Old Trafford. His work rate, temperament and attitude were all highly regarded by the Manchester United faithful and the loan move was met with sadness by some.
But we can see now that the Manchester United manager values technique more than athleticism. Goals more than selflessness.
He offloaded Welbeck and Hernandez because they don’t score enough. In came Falcao, who’s goalscoring record is amongst the best in world football.
English media outlet The Express reports that, whatever Chicharito’s future holds, he’s unlikely to return to Manchester United:
Hernandez was hoping that his move abroad would earn him a place back in the Red Devils’ squad for next season, but reports in Spain claim that Van Gaal has no intention of bringing him back to Old Trafford.
He’s scored twice in 4 appearances for Real Madrid. He’s netted a screamer and missed a sitter. As ever he looks as if he can be a decent member of the squad at Real Madrid. But we would be very surprised if he became first choice. So he will have the same problem at Real Madrid as he did at Manchester United – he’ll be deemed a super-sub rather than a starter.
At the end of the season Chicharito will have to decide whether this is enough for him or whether he looks elsewhere for a start. Our guess is that the latter will occur.
Manchester United fans: do you want Chicharito back?
