Real Madrid doesn’t look like a team that needs a huge amount of investment right now. Despite having a history of making massive splurges in the transfer market on a yearly basis, perhaps anther goal keeper is the only obvious area of paucity right now.
But Carlo Ancelotti was regularly linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Ramires in the summer and this perhaps gave us a clue that the defensive midfield is an area of concern. With Luka Modric and Toni Kroos filling the midfield slots right now, you wonder where an anchor man would fit into the side.
But when Madrid face their sternest tests – away from home in the latter stages of The Champions League for example – they may wish to lose an attacker and throw another midfielder in there.
Reports in England on Monday reveal that Real Madrid are keen on signing the sensational Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, however, have claimed that Vidal’s representative, Fernando Felicevich, is currently in talks with Spanish giants Madrid over a January move to the Bernabeu.
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, according to the report, is keen to bolster his midfield options in the new year and has identified Vidal as his No.1 target.
Vidal has had a dodgy knee over the last year or so. But, when fit, he’s among the very best midfielders in the world. A fierce competitor, he’s usually first into the tackle. He never stops running and provides a great defensive shield. But that’s only part of his quality. Because, going forward he’s also a superb player. He’s quick, a great passer of the ball and he scores loads of goals – he’s got 30 in 99 games for Juventus.
Regardless of the quality in the Madrid side, you feel that Vidal would get straight into the first eleven – he’s that good.
Let’s see him in action. Real Madrid fans: do you need him?
