Good players

We have decided to love Arsene Wenger again today and counter the argument that he buys the wrong players by lauding his downright refusal to further inflate the market by paying silly money for footballers.

And, if reports are to be believed, he has chosen to pursue three players this winter, all of whom could be useful at the club.

That beacon of all that is true and correct, The Daily Star, reckons that Wenger wants the following trio – worth an estimated 60 million squid – to make his title push more convincing:

The Gunners have agreed personal terms with Germany World Cup winner Sami Khedira.

But they must now attempt to agree a fee with Madrid.

Arsenal have also joined the race to sign Benfica midfield starlet Anderson Talisca.

Reports suggest Wenger sent scouts over to Portugal to watch the 20-year-old Brazilian in action against Arouca on Sunday night.

Wenger is also weighing up whether to renew his pursuit of Schalke starlet Julian Draxler.

We’ve done Khedira to death. Suffice to say it’s a no-brainer, vital signing, better late than never etc…

Julian Draxler has also been mentioned more than most at this media outlet. While some may be horrified at the idea that Arsenal are after yet another attacking midfielder, we strongly believe that Draxler can become a top striker – the like of which The Gunners definitely need. Yes, Danny Welbeck is a useful squad player. But, however hard we try, we just can’t see him scoring a blinder in the tightest of top level matches. And let us tell you, we have a very furtive collective imagination. 3 goals against Galatasaray seemed to turn this guy into Thierry Henry overnight. But the reality check came against ‘topposition’ in the form of Chelsea.

Draxler could prove the top level forward acquisition that could make the difference in games like the aformentioned broken record of a fixture that we saw at the weekend.

The final name on the list is Benfica forward Anderson Talisca – another who floats somewhere between the category of midfielder and forward. But his goalscoring record of 6 in just 7 games for his new club suggests that he too would be best employed up top.

We should explain that, while Arsenal may well be interested in the Brazilian, he has been linked to virtually every elite club in England this week so don’t imagine that this one is a done deal just yet!

Let’s see Talisca in action. Arsenal fans: keen?
