Some players seem to be interminably linked with transfers. But these rumours usually mean that the player’s days at his club are numbered, however implausible a move seems.
Angel di Maria is a perfect example. He was rumoured to be moving for years before he actually went to Manchester United this summer.
And if we are to believe this theory then it is surely only a matter of time before Sami Khedira leaves Real Madrid too.
He was a crucial member of The German World Cup winning squad but still doesn’t seem to be central to the plans of Carlo Ancelotti.
And the newspapers are once more suggesting on Thursday that Khedira will move clubs imminently, with Chelsea one of the interested parties.
The Guardian states:
In other news, Sami Khedira has announced he wants to come to the Premier League in January, which has pricked the ears of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool
With Chelsea currently looking so strong the immediate question would be whether they actually need him.
Ramirez and John Obi Mikel are fighting it out for the defensive midfield place alongside Nemanja Matic right now. But you’d have to say that Khedira would offer more than either if he signed for Chelsea.
Ramires is a fine player with great mobility. But Khedira is much more of a physical presence and stamps his authority all over most games in which he competes. As for Mikel, despite a good career at the club, you do feel as he’s a little off the pace these days and it’s only a matter of time before he is moved on.
So, for us, the signing of Khedira would certainly make Chelsea an even stronger 11. Let’s take a look at the lad in action.
Chelsea fans: do you need him?
