The imminent signing of Daley Blind is, in some ways, a strange one for Manchester United.
Not because he’s an average player. He’s not. Blind has one of the best left feet in the business and, at 24, he still has time to improve. He also has the versatility to provide cover in several positions.
But the timing of the deal perhaps suggests that Manchester United have failed in their main target – to sign a top central midfielder.
Watching Manchester United against Burnley the defence looked dodgy at times – Evans was really poor – but the biggest need is in the midfield where Fletcher looked hopelessly flat-footed and sluggish.
Blind could have been signed a long time ago but the fact that it has happened at last minute leaves us to imagine that he will be mainly used, to begin with, to bolster the centre of the park. To improve the passing and offer some more guile.
But he’s by no means the perfect solution. Manchester United need a dynamo like Carvalho or Vidal and we will be gobsmacked if they end the window without recruiting a specialist for the engine room.
While Blind will also play his fair share of games on the left, his signing suggests that Manchester United may wait until January to sign Kevin Strootman. But, looking at the gaping hole in the middle of the park right now, this may prove too little too late for United.
They need a midfield general now. Manchester United fans: can United cope without a midfield signing?

Never ever.middle of the park is too week. Failure to reignforce they wont finish top ten.

Playing three back is not helping the team at all.Please united fans let’s rise against this formation of 3,5,2 before our team finished top ten.The coach should resort to our usual 4,4,2 period.
