Decent addition?

Arsenal fans may be holding out for one more high profile addition to their side before 2nd September but it appears that they are currently closest to doing a deal for a slightly lesser known star.

Reports today suggest that Arsenal are close to sealing a deal for a Greek international defender.

The Metro reports:

Arsenal set to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos after making new £15.8m (20m Euro) transfer offer

Arsenal have seemingly been haggling over a fee for some time and 20m Euro does seem like a lot of cash for a player who isn’t a guaranteed starter in the Borussia Dortmund team.

But the player’s international record is more impressive. He’s played 51 times for Greece and started every one of their games in Brazil 2014, even scoring a goal against Costa Rica in the round of 16.

If he does join the club he will add serious experience to a back line which has lost the nous of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona this summer. Calum Chambers looks like an excellent acquisition but Arsenal needed more know how in there and Papastathopoulos is coming into his prime.

Let’s see the lad in action while you scratch your heads trying to think of a chant for the player. Arsenal fans: a good investment, or a little pricey?
