Many to most Arsenal fans would suggest that if the squad still needs strengthening then it is with a central midfielder and striker.
Latest reports suggest that both midfielder and striker could arrive before the end of the window.
The Standard reports, rather surprisingly, that Arsenal and Tottenham are in the hunt for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck after the player expressed his desire to move on because of limited opportunities in the first 11.
Arsenal and Tottenham to battle for Danny Welbeck as Van Gaal says striker can leave Manchester United
There has been no official word from the Manchester United manager but the source quotes a highly placed insider at Manchester United as saying that the player is prepared to leave and that the club are prepared to sell him:
“United are happy to let him go but would prefer it was to a club that won’t be fighting for a Champions League place by the end of the season.
“But the reality is that there are plenty of top clubs who will be very interested in signing Danny.”
The Telegraph too, suggests that the player has been told he can leave.
Welbeck will never be a prolific striker but we would still be very surprised if United were prepared to sell him. With no other obvious back up lined up to coming to the club and replace him, Welbeck is a really good all-rounder who is strong quick and creative.
But, assuming that the player is available, we can definitely imagine the player being Tottenham Arsenal’s cup of tea.
He’s got a proven track record in The Premier league and his best years ahead of him. While it would make Manchester United’s squad even thinner it would certainly bolster Arsenal and Tottenham no end.
Arsenal are also said to be looking at AlexSong as midfield cover. The Metro reports:
