Whether challenging for the title or battling against relegation there is a definite appeal to playing in the English league.
Players from all over the world come, mainly because of the riches on offer, but also because it’s an exciting and intense competition with great atmosphere in the stadiums.
And now that Samuel Eto’o has had a taste of England it seems as if he wants to stay.
Because reports today suggest that he would prefer a move to Everton or Liverpool this season than to sign for Ajax.
The Daily Mail reports:
Samuel Eto’o has turned down the chance to sign for Ajax after the deadline for an agreement passed at 6pm on Wednesday night.
The 33-year-old free agent is awaiting offers from Everton and Liverpool
Whilst Eto’o wouldn’t necessarily be a player who could give 35 full games to Everton this season, they don’t really need that anyway.
What they do need is top quality cover for record signing Romelu Lukaku. And Eto’o would be an excellent solution in the absence of another long term capture at this point.
Indeed, if his form was really good then Lukaku could play on the right, as he did at times for Everton last season with Eto’o up top in the strongest XI.
It’s really a no-brainer for the club. Obviously the player’s wages would be high but that would surely be offset by the goal threat that he would offer the club next season.
Let’s see some of his goals while we wait for a decision. Everton fans: do you think this would be a worthy investment?
