Report: Manchester United on verge of 4th summer signing

Louis always said that his success at Manchester United would not be immediate. But, regardless of a really unfortunate injury list to start his competitive reign as United manager, few would have expected this result.

Many areas of the media offered a knee-jerk reaction to the defeat with talk of a permanent demise for the club. But the truth, while concerning, is not as apocalyptic.

Manchester United need three things. They need their better players – RvP, Carrick, Evans, Rafael, Valencia, Shaw, Welbeck – back from injury. They need to properly learn a completely new system, which LvG is bound to persist with. And they need to have some serious success in the transfer market over the next couple of weeks.

The latter is a priority and it appears that Manchester United are about to complete a deal for a really important player.

The Guardian reports:

Manchester United believe a deal to land Marcos Rojo is close, but it is still to be decided whether Nani should go on loan to Sporting Lisbon in addition to the £16m fee for the defender.

At 24 Rojo is already playing at a very high level but is still on an upward trajectory. He’s fast, skillful and has the sort of cavalier playing style that Manchester United have always been synonymous with. He also loves to have a dig from distance which, providing he doesn’t over indulge, will also add goal threat.

His signing will not only offer cover for Luke Shaw but, you would imagine, add depth to Louis’s central defensive pool. When Shaw is fit he will start so expect to see Rojo on the left of the three at the back – he’s the Thomas Vermaelen alternative and we think that United fans will find this a more exciting signing than the ex-Arsenal man.

This is the first in what needs to be a quartet of top signings to get United motoring. But it’s a definite move in the right direction.

Rojo would follow Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Vanja Milinković as the club’s 4th summer signing.

Let’s see Rojo in action. Manchester United fans: good move?
