Newcastle have arguably done some excellent business already in this transfer window and the focus seems to have mainly been on retooling the creative areas of the squad.
But there is a definite sense that Alan Pardew wishes to invest further before the end of August, in an attempt to avoid a repeat of the situation that occurred towards the end of last season, where quality and even motivation seemed to dwindle alarmingly.
One player who has been linked to Newcastle before and again today is Manchester United’s peripheral squad member Wilfried Zaha.
We feel a little sorry for the lad as he hasn’t really been given a proper run in United’s first 11 since he signed for the club 18 months ago.
We also think that he’s a really good player. He may still be something of a rough diamond but there is definite quality in his game and he looks as if he could be a real success in The Premier League given time and experience.
He’s really fast off the mark. He’s got great ball control and genuine trickery. He’s also a super athlete who never stops running. He needs a top coach to give him some focus and confidence after a tumultuous year.
But we think he’d be a real bargain for Newcastle. The Independent reports:
Newcastle United are in the lead to sign Manchester United outcast Wilfried Zaha, according to reports.
If they can do a deal for £7m we think that it would represent a low risk investment. Even if he didn’t succeed he would have a decent sell on value at just 21 years of age.
Let’s see him in recent action. Newcastle fans: keen?

That’s the end of that one then
