Real Madrid have obviously done some fantastic business this summer. Not least in signing James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos.

And there has been talk over the last few days that they might bring in the sensational Radamel Falcao from Monaco.

You might imagine that it would be hard to do better business than to sign this trio. But we believe that Real Madrid have been linked today with an even more important signing.

However good Madrid are going forward they are still going to need to be solid at the back when they come up against a really top teams.

With the forward line that they now possess they will simply outscore the smaller opposition.

But against the likes of Barcelona and big European teams in The Champions League they will get seriously examined at the back. And we aren’t convinced that they have a good enough goalkeeper to retain their European title.

Iker Casillas has had a worrying year and there is little sign that his wobble is over. Real have signed Keylor Navas but he is untested at the very top level, despite a year at Levante.

No wonder then that Diego Lopez is so popular with the fans. But he too could struggle in the biggest games, if he stays.

So we think that the signing of Petr Cech could be the best of the lot for Real this summer. He’s been forced down the pecking order at Chelsea by Thibaut Courtois and a player of this quality won’t be happy sitting on the bench this season. At 32 he is still on top of his game and he’s a wonderful goalkeeper.

The Guardian reports Friday:

The Spanish side also have their eye on Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, who has no desire to kick his heels on the bench

Let’s see the lad in action. Real fans: a must buy?
