Chelsea do it. City do it. So why can’t Manchester United do it?
Where it comes to making decisive inroads in the market United sometimes seem off the pace. They have of course brought the excellent Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera into the club this summer.
But those signings were mooted a long time ago and they too have taken ages to complete.
Manchester United seem to telegraph their plans and spend months trying to get the deals done. They may point to the fact that such a big club will always struggle to keep their transfer plans a secret, and get their deals done quickly, because of the amount of speculation surrounding potential arrivals.
But Real Madrid and Barcelona don’t seem to struggle where it comes to quick fire investment. It’s really frustrating for the fans and they will simply hope that, now Louis van Gaal is back at his desk in Manchester, the club can follow through on their plans for summer investment.
Two of those long-winded deals may soon come to a conclusion soon if reports are to be believed.
The Daily Mail reckons:
Manchester United ready to offer £15m for Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen to beat Barcelona to Belgium star’s signature
Louis van Gaal also keen on signing Holland World Cup star Daley Blind
Both are seemingly drawing interest from multiple parties so Manchester United may have to pay top dollar if they want to secure the signings. But both would be good additions to a side which needs defensive reinforcements.
Blind can play at left back, left wing back or in the midfield so he could kill three birds with one stone. The Dutch footballer of the year has lovely feet and would certainly add quality to the side. As for Vermaelen, he may not be getting game at Arsenal but he would add numbers to a United squad which is thin in terms of senior centre backs.
The Daily Mail quotes Arsene Wenger, who confirms that Untied are in for the player:
Wenger said: ‘Manchester United are part of the group (of bidders).
‘Vermaelen could leave us because he needs to play now. We’re in a position where it’s difficult to stand in his way.
‘We would prefer to sell him aboard (sic). That is an option. We have offers from abroad as well. We have bids. You will know very soon.’
Let’s see some Blind magic. Manchester United fans: are these two now the most likely summer arrivals?
