Despite the noises coming out of Chelsea, many believe that they will buy again in this window.
With another £28m in the bank from the sale of Romelu Lukaku Chelsea surely have money to spend and they have been linked with many players to add to the spine of their team this summer.
We wouldn’t be at all surprised if another really top, or really promising, striker came in before September to add genuine bite and competition to a forward line which only has Diego Costa on an upward trajectory.
And rumours just won’t go away about Chelsea bringing in another centre back.
But a player who keeps getting linked to The Blues is Real Madrid stopper Raphael Varane.
The Express rekindles the flame today:
Chelsea set to step up Raphael Varane interest after Joao Miranda snub
The report suggests that Chelsea recently made a bid of £20m for Atletico Madrid star Miranda but that it fell short of the valuation of the Spanish club.
So Chelsea could be back in for Varane. In the club’s favour Jose did manage the player a year ago for Madrid. But it’s hard to imagine the Spanish club wanting to sell a player who, despite limited appearances last season, should have a very bright future and is already a France regular at 21.
With Pepe and Ramos occupying the centre back berths Varane may get itchy feet and we always say that there is seldom smoke without fire in the transfer market. But we’d be surprised in Chelsea pulled this one off.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Chelsea fans: would Varane get in the first XI?
