Sir Alex Ferguson once said:
“When an Italian says it’s pasta I check under the sauce to make sure. They are innovators of the smokescreen.”
And, even though he and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho are great friends, you would imagine that the canny Scot would view the canny Portuguese with similar misgivings.
So many of us have taken Jose’s comments about not buying anymore players this summer with a pinch of salt.
Because a few days after declaring his transfer business done for the summer Didier Drogba was brought back to the club.
No doubt, when he signs his next star he will have some excuse which supposedly validates his previous comments. Because we just can’t see Chelsea going for a whole month in the window without spending.
If Romelu Lukaku leaves then they will have yet another reason to invest. If Torres or Obi Mikel leave, to bring the number of foreign players down, Chelsea will invest.
And reports today suggest that Chelsea are making a move for a brilliant international defender. The Express reports:
Mourinho has insisted his transfer business is done for the summer but reports in Spain claim Miranda is wanted by Chelsea.
According to Spanish sports paper Marca, the Blues boss has lodged a £20m bid for the centre-back.
Chelsea have decent centre backs but we definitely believe there is room for improvement there. Ideally Jose would have a really mobile player working with John Terry in there. For us, Cahill isn’t that man. Ivanovic is solid as a rock but isn’t as quick as he used to be.
So Miranda could be an excellent option. He’s a natural athlete in the prime of his career. He also scores a few goals.
At £20m he would be a sound investment for Chelsea and we think that this deal could well happen.
Let’s take a look at the Brazilian star in action. Chelsea fans do you believe that this one is a goer or do you think that Mourinho has finished his business for this window?
