Arsenal are apparently still in the hunt to bring Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas to The Emirates.
The Gunners have reportedly made contact with the player. They are prepared to sign him if he can negotiate himself out of his current contract, according to The Metro.
Arsenal make offer to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas on free transfer
The goalkeeper struggled for first team appearances last season, losing out to Diego Lopez. With Real Madrid having recently signed Keylor Navas it leaves the club captain with fewer opportunities to start in the first eleven.
Arsene Wenger is apparently interested in making Casillas his number one choice in goal, but is unwilling to pay a transfer fee due to his age. The 33-year-old still has time remaining on his current contract with the Spanish club but he may be able to have his deal terminated due to his high wages.
This would then leave Arsenal free to offer the player a contract without having to provide compensation to Real Madrid.
Meanwhile the club are also on the verge of signing Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina. While official confirmation from Arsenal is yet to come, various outlets are now reporting that the 25-year old has signed a four year deal.
Opsina would be Arsene Wenger’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following transfers that brought Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle.
The goalkeeper, who impressed in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup has signed from Nice for a fee of around £3.5. It now means The Gunners have two established keepers in their squad following the departure of Lukasz Fabianski to Swansea.
Arsenal are still in the transfer market and could make further signings in the coming days. They were recently reported to be interested in Matija Nastasic, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to solve their centre back problem.
Arsenal fans: would you want to sign a player who has had such a bad year in terms of performances?
