Hopes and dreams can change fast in relation to your club and their transfer requirements.
Indeed, just a couple of months ago, many fans would have been very underwhelmed by the idea Arturo Vidal being Manchester United’s main summer signing.
And in a few weeks his name may be long forgotten as other “dream ” targets are pursued.
But having seen him perform with such gusto and purpose at The World Cup he looks like exactly the sort of player Manchester United need. Vidal is a true warrior (hence the nickname) of a player. Seemingly first to every ball and as fearsome as he is precise in the tackle.
The fact that he gets forward at will and scores loads of goals makes him an unbelievably good potential acquisition for Manchester United – a club which has never replaced the likes of Roy Keane in what used to be the most beautifully balanced midfield in Europe.
A couple of days ago reports surfaced that Juventus were adamant that the player would remain at the club this summer.
‘Arturo Vidal is not for sale. He’s one of the most important players in the squad. Important teams asked for him but he is not for sale. He is happy to be here.’
…said the club’s chief executive Giuseppe Marotta
But Vidal’s latest comments, whilst far from rebellious, suggest that his future is still not certain.
The Express quotes him from an interview on Chilean radio station ADN:
“Right now I’m just working on gaining strength and mobility.
“I can’t say I’ve completed a cycle at Juventus.
“If I stay, I intend to keep doing things right.”
The Daily Mail quotes him as saying:
It’s difficult to speak of other teams when you are already at a top club,’ Vidal said to Chilean newspaper La Cuarta. ‘I have won the Serie A title three times and I respect my team-mates.
‘I have heard about the interest shown by Real Madrid and (Manchester) United in me but there is someone (Vidal’s agent) who deals with this.’
We believe that Vidal is excited by the challenge of playing for Manchester United in a new era under Louis van Gaal. There is a sense that this could be the start of a momentus period for the club and Vidal would only strengthen that theory if he joined Manchester United.
While we wait for categoric news on the player let’s see some more Vidal magic. Manchester United fans: is a deal still on?
