Star to be

soccersweep readers will know that our mantra is that there is seldom smoke without fire in the transfer market.

And that could be good news for Chelsea because there have been persistent links with one particular player over the last six months, as Chelsea look to recruit more top players.

With John Terry reaching veteran status and the back line having a fairly high average age Chelsea have been linked to more defenders than just Zouma and Filipe Luis.

And reports today suggest that Real Madrid star Raphael Varane’s future may be uncertain at the Spanish giants.

The Metro states that Varane wants summit talks about his role at Real Madrid, with Pepe and Sergio Ramos still regarded as the number one pairing.

They say:

Chelsea get Raphael Varane transfer boost as he considers quitting Real Madrid

We would have to say that, having had such a good season in La Liga, Real Madrid would surely be loathe to let such a player leave. As we mentioned, he’s still seen as a back up player, but he turned out 23 times for Madrid last season and has forced his way into the French national side.

At 21 Varane is seen as a massive star of the future but wants game time now.

Clubs the size of Real Madrid generally get their wish where it comes to retaining their players.

On the flip side, Jose Mourinho worked at the Spanish club with Varane and may feel that he has a chance of bringing the player to Chelsea.

And what a player he could be for The Blues. Despite his tender age he’s already a top tier footballer with his entire career ahead of him. He could definitely do a job in Chelsea’s first eleven next season.

So we may yet to see Varane and Kurt Zouma forming an impenetrable barrier in the Chelsea defence for the next decade.

Let’s have a look at the lad in action. Chelsea fans: any chance of prising this guy from Real Madrid?
