Now this is one to get very excited about.
We assume that Chelsea will spend most of their remaining window time looking for strikers and, possibly, another midfielder.
But, as is the way of modern football, wingers regularly play up top these days. We saw Arjen Robben do it to devastating effect for Holland at The World Cup. And players like Messi and Ronaldo have drifted inside as their careers have matured.
So this may well be the case with Chelsea’s search for another forward this summer. If they sign wingers who can score goals then they can kill two birds with one stone. And how Jose loves a pacey, hard working winger.
Reports on Wednesday afternoon suggest that Chelsea are interested in signing a player who is already one of the best in his position in Europe – despite his tender age.
The Metro says:
Chelsea join Liverpool in race for £20million Real Sociedad rebel Antoine Griezmann
The France winger, who rejected a new contract with Sociedad two weeks ago, looks all but certain to depart La Liga this summer.
At just 23 Griezmann has exploded onto the scene over the last year scoring 3 times in just 8 games for France.
But he’s been known for much longer than that having had 5 good seasons for Real Sociedad. Even back in 2009 he played 40 times for the club and has blossomed with La Liga side, scoring a phenomenal 52 in 200 games for his club from out wide.
So he’s a goal-scoring wide man who looks easily good enough to move inside when called upon.
Perhaps Mourinho will start buying more adaptable forwards like this with his remaining time in the window. The addition of Griezmann would be sensational for Chelsea.
Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: do you need him?
