Chelsea have wasted no time in the transfer market this summer. We really feel that the humbling by Atletico Madrid in The Champions League semi-final had a profound effect on Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and he realised that the bar was set much higher than where his current squad was.
So the overhaul began in earnest and we have already seen Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas join the club in big-money moves this summer. Another player who is likely to play a big part next season is on-loan Atletico keeper Thibaut Courtois.
And reports today suggest that Chelsea have made a bid for another young stopper which leaves the future of Petr Cech in serious doubt.
The Metro reports:
Chelsea have made a £5million offer for Udinese goalkeeper Simone Scuffet and hope to beat Atletico Madrid to a deal.
The 18-year-old, who established himself as first-choice for Udinese last season, has been tipped to become a star by Italy international Gianluigi Buffon.
The player made his debut for Udinese at the aged just 17 in February of this year. His performances were so impressive in the first team that he superseded their number one goalkeeper Željko Brkić.
He is young enough not to expect a place in Chelsea first team straightaway and if he doesn’t go out on loan then you can easily imagine him being the number two to Courtois for next season.
And after a brilliant decade at the club we think that this all means the end for Petr Cech at Chelsea. He is too good to sit on the bench and with Courtois returning we feel that the new dawn at Chelsea will be with the Belgian in goal.
Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: will Cech be gone come September?
