Real Madrid are moving closer to a deal for the hugely exciting James Rodriguez. Reports coming out of Spain seem to indicate that the current Champions League holders have made the Colombian their number one transfer target according to Marca.
James is keen on a move to the Bernabéu, with Monaco open to negotiations and Real Madrid prepared to offer big money to sign him.
The Spanish paper has reported that the groundwork is set for a possible move, with Rodriguez prepared to move to Madrid and his current club Monaco open to discussing a deal that would see the player leave the club after only one year.
The two clearest obstacles to any deal are the transfer fee Real Madrid would have to pay and where the attacking midfielder would fit into a star-studded side.
Monaco are believed to want around €75 million for the youngster, though Marca reports that Real Madrid only want to pay €60 million. That means the two sides will have to negotiate a fee suitable to both sides before any transfer could progress.
The other problem seems to be solving itself. Angel di Maria looks set to leave Spain, with a number of clubs vying for his signature, including Manchester United and PSG.
Rodriguez joined Monaco from Portuguese side Porto last year and has since gone on to score 12 goals and provide 12 assists in just 38 games. Throughout his entire club career the 22 year old has managed to be directly involved in 98 goals, despite his young age.
He has shot to fame over the past few weeks thanks to a hugely impressive World Cup campaign in Brazil. He has scored in all five of Colombia’s games and is currently the top scorer at the competition with 6 goals.
If Real Madrid can sign the 22 year old it would mark a powerful statement of intent with the club also on the verge of finalising a deal for the impressive Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich.
Let’s see Rodriguez in action. Real Madrid faithful: perfect addition?
