Chelsea are stepping up their interest in signing young midfielder Adrien Rabiot. News has emerged today that the club have made a £7 million bid in an attempt to secure his services, according to The Metro.

Chelsea have made a £7million bid for PSG sensation Adrien Rabiot – after he turned down a new contract at the French club.

The 19 year old has reportedly turned down a new contract with French side Paris Saint Germain and has set his sight on playing under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

Rabiot joined PSG in 2010 from Pau. He made his first appearance in the senior side in 2012 before spending several months on loan at Ligue 1 side Toulouse. Upon returning to PSG he established himself as an important figure in the side, making 27 appearance last season in all competitions.

The player has impressed pundits due to his excellent passing skills and technical ability, making him an exciting prospect for Chelsea for the future.

Chelsea look to be building a compelling squad for the upcoming season. While Jose Mourinho made it clear last year that he was planning to compete more aggressively in the following years, few believed they would sign so many impressive players in such a short space of time.

With the club not falling foul of Financial Fair Play rules like Manchester City and PSG, they are free to spend money more freely, and appear to be taking full effect.

The London side have already splashed cash on bringing in Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona for around £30 million fee and impressive striker Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid for £32 million. With Kurt Zouma and Thibaut Courtois both returning from loan spells away from Stamford Bridge, they look in a strong position to challenge for trophies on multiple fronts in the coming season.

Chelsea have also been linked with a number of additional players in the last few days. The departure of Ashley Cole to Roma has left a gap at left back, and both Filipe Luis and Marcos Rojo have been linked with moves to London.
