Nearly official

Arsenal are reportedly edging closer to the signing of Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez. The player has apparently opted to join The Gunners and reports indicate he could be flying over to London to finalise a deal, according to The Metro.

Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez is reportedly flying to London to complete his transfer to Arsenal after rejecting moves to Juventus and AC Milan.

The Gunners are reported to have agreed a £32million fee to sign Sanchez following days of speculation and the switch is now edging closer to completion.

The Daily Star says a deal could signed today:

ARSENAL could wrap up a deal for Alexis Sanchez TODAY after reports from Spain revealed talks between the player’s agent and the club are underway.

Reports from across Europe indicate that the deal taking the former Udinese man to the Emirates will be completed imminently after the player travelled to London for talks.

Sanchez has been involved in a protracted transfer saga over the last few weeks. Liverpool were initially keen to see the 25 year old winger move to Anfield as part of any deal that would see Luis Suarez switch to Barcelona.

However, the player reportedly turned down this offer with Liverpool now willing to accept a cash-only offer for their prolific, yet controversial, striker.

Sanchez had also attracted the interest of Italian clubs Juventus and AC Milan. The Express reports though that discussions between those clubs and the players were unproductive with neither being able to match the contract offered by Arsenal.

With the North London club having agreed an alleged £32 million with Barcelona it now only remains for personal terms to be finalised and other formalities such as a medical to be completed.

The Chilean has been at the Catalan side since 2011, although he had previously played for a number of sides including Udinese and River Plate.

His time at Barcelona has been inconsistent, with first team opportunities being limited at times. Yet, he has still managed to score an impressive 47 goals in his time with the Spanish giants and had a brilliant season in the last campaign.

The winger has also impressed consistently for his country. He has scored 24 goals for Chile in 71 appearances, helping them reach the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Sanchez would be a major coup for Arsenal. Along with other possible signings that include Lars Bender and the imminent arrival of Mathieu Debuchy, it appears the club are looking to mount a serious challenge for The Premier League next season.

Fans will no doubt still be looking for Arsene Wenger to bring a centre back and a world class striker to The Emirates to ensure that they are as competitive as possible come autumn.

Let’s see some Sanchez magic while we wait for confirmation. Arsenal fans: confident? Nathan Gibson
