Manchester United could be close to securing a deal for William Carvalho. The promising 22 year old is nearing a move as his club, Sporting Lisbon, look to bring in a replacement according to recent reports in The Express.
Man Utd edge closer to £37m William Carvalho deal as Sporting Lisbon line up replacement
MANCHESTER UNITED are edging closer to beating Chelsea to William Carvalho after Sporting Lisbon stepped up their interest in a replacement.
With Sporting Libson preparing for life without the defensive midfielder, they have begun negotiations for Nigerian Abdullahi Shehu. The Red Devils face competition from Chelsea to the land Carvalho though but The Express believes that the Manchester club is closer to a deal than their London rival.
The Portuguese side remain adamant that any suitors will have to spend big to land the defensive midfielder. Earlier in the week Augusto Ignacio, a director at Sporting Lisbon, made it clear that the player would not leave for less than his £37 million release clause.
The director said:
“It’s not like the old days when players left Sporting at any price.
“The termination clause ensures a great deal to Sporting. I am very pleased with the negotiations.”
The 6 ft defensive midfielder is an imposing player who made his debut for Sporting in 2011. He has since gone to make 30 appearances for the club in addition to spending time on loan at Fatima and Cercie Brugge.
Manchester United face a summer overhaul following a disappointing season that saw them finish 7th. Indications seem to suggest that new manager Louis van Gaal is looking to bring in several players to replace those he doesn’t think are good enough to be playing for the club.
However, Man Utd seem to have had problems landing world class players so far during the transfer window due to the fact that they are not competing in any European competitions.
