Manchester United: Speculation mounts about shocking transfer

Old Trafford Stadium, inside

Please. No…

Oh dear oh dear. Most transfer speculation is generally pretty exciting. Manchester United need to bolster in several positions and some mouthwatering names have been linked to the club this summer.

But, every now and again, you get a Fellainiesque transfer. A player rumoured to be coming in for loads of money who simply doesn’t boil your potatoes.

Many thought Fellaini would fail at Manchester United and their worst fears seem to be materialising.

So Manchester United won’t want to make the same mistake again. But we feel that they will be doing just that if they sign Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.

Granted, he had his best season at Madrid in the last campaign. But that has simply masked the long-term frailties of a player who goes down too easily, too often and lacks consistency. And, in Nani, Manchester United already have one of those!

Di Maria’s performances at The World Cup have simply highlighted the fact that Real Madrid will do very well to get rid of him this summer – particularly at the prices being mooted.

The Express continues to the story today by suggesting that Di Maria’s agent is brokering a move to Manchester United.

…reports in Spain claim that his agent, Jorge Mendes, expects Di Maria to join Old Trafford as Real edge closer to signing Monaco’s James Rodriguez.

…Di Maria looks set to become the third (Manchester United signing) after reportedly feeling undervalued at the Bernabeu and has previously revealed that he will make a decision after the World Cup.

“For now, I’m just thinking the World Cup. We’ll see what happens with Madrid and if they want to continue, he said.

“Honestly, I know that there are offers and interested clubs.”

We would much rather see a young player with potential come in – someone like James Rodriguez or Antoine Griezmann – than the on-off Argentine who made some inexplicably bad decisions in the game against Switzerland.

But he is a player who will draw polemic responses. So, Manchester United fans, let’s have your thoughts on this one. Would you like to see Di Maria at Old Trafford next season?

Pls Di Maria is a class player. You don’t play in the Madrid first team for a long time if you’re not consistent. And he still retains his place under Carlo albeit in a new more central role. To judge a player based on World Cup alone is not the best of indication (take into account his record in Leagues). But of course 40 millions would be too steep imo. 20-30 tops would be about right in current market valuation. He can be utilised as an inverted winger or just simply a left winger. As for Madrid, how are they going to fit in CR, Bale & James Rodriguez in one team of two wingers.

If Di Maria goes to Old Trafford he will join the list of “not good enough for United” list. This list already includes such luminaries as Smalling, Welbeck, Cleverley, Evra and Rafael.
Di Maria has no sense of balance or direction, the former meaning he spends more time horizontal than vertical, the latter meaning he runs around in circles.
He is not worth 50,000 never mind 50,000,000. Please do not buy him.

The way things are going it looks like we will be playing LvG’s 5-2-1-2 that he has been using at the world cup, with the option of switching to a 4-3-3. So what is the point in signing a winger? I doubt his adaptability to adjust to a central role leaving the wing work for the LWB and RWB. Wasting 40 mil on a winger will hinder our chances in sealing the likes of Hummels, Vidal or Sanchez. As well as this, when LvG does opt for the 4-3-3 why would anyone want to bench Januzaj who can play either wing and we already have plenty of talent in that area

What a load of Nonsense! Di Maria has no sense of balance or direction? ufff dum people and their farce football knowledge. First of all you as my friend said above “you don’t get to play in the Madrid starting line-up if your not consistent enough.” I would also like to add that you won’t stay in Madrid for that long if your not good enough. Di Maria along with Modric and Ronaldo destroyed Bayern in last sesson’s CL semi-final. Di Maria along with (sub) Marcelo, also played a major role in the final which led to Real winning the trophy after both Ronaldo and Bale had a poor game.Di Maria is much better than what we stock in our wing department at Old Trafford!

To be honest he is a class player, inconsistency though but still doesn’t that much from him..should we sign him now? NO, why coz we have got other important areas to focus on bring in Vidal/Cavarlo and Hummels first Depay can follow thereafter.

Di Maria is a good player but he is not what United need right now. Every good manager builds from the back (if you don’t concede you don’t lose) and we have lost 2 centre back this summer who need to be replaced, sorry but a duo from Smalling/Evans/Jones hardly strike fear into the hearts of attackers. Last seasons fall down was the lack of any real midfield presence, we need to strengthen this area as another priority. We have a strong frontline which could be added too after the rest of the team has been strengthened first. Get Di Maria after Hummels, Varmalen and Vidal/ De Jong and Carvalio.
